The 2017 Open Doors World Watch List is a powerful tool for policy.
As President Trump takes office, we are urging this administration to prioritize religious freedom within U.S. foreign policy. It is crucial for our new president to address the massive and brutal spread of religious persecution and be prepared to promote religious freedom throughout the world in strategic ways.
The newly released 2017 Open Doors World Watch List is a powerful research tool. We are encouraging the new administration to use this information to help inform U.S. foreign policy in countries where Christians face the most severe persecution. Speak out for persecuted Christians around the world today by adding your voice to this letter.
Dear President Trump,
Today, at least three-fourths of the world’s population live in a context wherein they face serious restrictions on freedom of conscience. Persecution of Christians and other religious minority groups is on the rise around the globe.
Each year, Open Doors releases the annual World Watch List, documenting the severe persecution of Christians in 50 countries around the world. This list is a key resource for policy as the U.S. engages with governments that systematically persecute Christians or tolerate persecution within their borders.
As you take office, I am urging you to show a deep commitment to religious freedom for all people throughout the world, by taking several key actions within the first 100 days of your administration:
Now, more than ever, is a crucial time for the U.S. to demonstrate a clear commitment to religious freedom around the globe. I am encouraging you to not only prioritize religious freedom within U.S. foreign policy but to also take the relationship between religious freedom and economic freedom to a new level. In countries where human rights and religious freedom are respected, we often find that families and societies are stable, contributing to strong economic growth.
I am encouraging you to do all that you can to alleviate the plight of persecuted Christians and other religious minorities, while upholding the great importance of religious freedom within the context of U.S. foreign policy.
Thank you for your attention to this crucial matter.
